Historic Fort Hays Days: Where History Lives!
Sunday, June 12, 2022
The Living History gang of the Society of Friends of Historic Fort Hays is scheduling an event that will jump start & enhance your summer fun!
The descendants of the captives of Custer's Washita confrontation have been invited to Historic Fort Hays to tell their story. The Cheyenne & Arapaho Nations from the Concho Agency in Oklahoma, have verbally agreed to rise up with an impressive show of force including at least forty natives & ten eighteen foot teepees. Each tribe will construct five teepees, & combined, will depict a Native American village. They will give informative lectures, perform Native Dances & offer handmade souvenirs for sale.
A Buffalo Soldiers encampment, historic speakers, vintage photos, wagon rides, & military encampment will make way for a Saturday evening with the "Black Wolf Band" who will provide music for your listening & dancing entertainment. It will all wrap up with a Sunday Morning Worship Service followed by a Post Nine Vintage Baseball Game!
Make it an unforgettable history teeming week-end & if history is your passion or even a shadowy interest, this is your opportunity to volunteer & help make this a successful weekend of historic dimension.
