FHSU Management Development Center Workshop: Managing Absences in the Workplace

Managing Absences in the Workplace provides a framework for supervisors, managers, & HR managers to manage both day-to-day absences & long-term absences. Productive workers are more critical than ever in today’s workforce. Participants will learn approaches & be provided tools to effectively manage absences.


  • Application of approaches & tools to manage day-to-day absences
  • Practices to best manage long-term absences for the least possible impact to the organization
  • Understanding the basics of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Understanding the basics of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)


Ruth Bealer, SHRM-SCP has experience in both the public & private sector, & currently serves as the owner & operator of HR Success Live. Ruth brings a wealth of experience in employee & labor relations, performance management, culture change, & has an HR generalist background. Ruth has worked with major corporations as well as with mid-size local organizations. Participants will find her approach to human resources & workplace issues to be very practical & easy to implement. She brings concept & theory to life with her examples of challenges faced by Human Resources professionals & Supervisory personnel.

Are you a supervisor or manager seeking ways to effectively manage your employees? Are you an HR Manager needing guidance to assist your supervisors & managers to manage employees consistently and effectively? This HR Workshop Series is for you as it will provide participants with user-friendly tools & approaches to manage employees. Participants can attend the series, or select one or two workshops of interest. Workshops will benefit HR Managers, Supervisors, & Managers. HR Managers are encouraged to bring the supervisors & managers within their organization to gain common skills in managing employees. Supervisors & managers who attend without an HR Manager will be provided tools & approaches to manage employees for quality outcome. HR Managers who are not able to bring their supervisors/managers, & attend solo, will come away with knowledge & materials designed to easily present back to the supervisors & managers.
